Last Day in Edinburgh
Soon we check out and taxi to the train station to Inverness. If we don't write for a while, it's because we don't have Internet access.
I learned a bit of trivia. The band Camera Obscura is probably named after a tourist attraction on the Royal Mile. The Cocteau Twins song "Athol-Brose" is the name of a whisky liqueur. And for his book jacket photo, Ken MacLeod, a favorite hard sci-fi writer of mine, appears in front of a monument we saw in person on Princes Street.
Unfortunately, we're also leaving just before some exciting events. The Edinburgh International Festival has theater, music, opera, and dance from all over the Western world. We're also missing the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Edinburgh Film Festival, and much of the Starbucks Edinburgh Jazz and Blues Festival.
