Last Night

I'm writing in the middle of the night, our last night in our home of 6 years. I'm hugely relieved that it's almost completely empty.

Nobody likes to move, and it's especially unfun when you don't have a place to move to. It's one thing to transfer your stuff, but quite another to liquidate it.

For me it was especially stressful because I wanted it all to go to the best possible homes. I'd be thinking, these are nice speaker stands. I'm sure there's someone out there with a speaker-stand-shaped hole in their lives, and these will make that person's life complete.

But time is the enemy of consideration, and as our move-out deadline approached, my ideals had to be set aside. We did pretty well, though. Some of the more valuable things were sold on Craigslist. We were able to give away lots to our neighborhood friends. And Margo liquidated plenty of things on the Freecycle list. But there was still plenty of ... stuff that had to be disposed of, and it was such a headache to have that hanging over our heads. It's such a relief to be on the other side of that process.
